Every morning a thought strikes my mind what should I prepare for breakfast which is very quick and healthy and one which my family enjoys. We all know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day in our life. A good breakfast fuels us up and gets us ready for the day. But our busy schedules do not have enough time to cook healthy food for us. So, we neglect it. Thus I am here with a healthy and instant breakfast recipe: Suji cheela/Rava cheela. Suji or Rava is good for health. It has a good amount of protein, fibre, and potassium.
Suji cheela is a perfectly healthy, easy and tasty breakfast recipe which can be prepared within a couple of minutes. The recipe is similar to instant rava uttapam from south Indian cuisine. If you are looking for a quick and healthy breakfast recipe, this instant Suji chilla recipe is one of the best ways to enjoy your most important meal of the day.
To make instant Suji cheela/Rava cheela you will need suji or rava or semolina, mixed with curd and some chopped seasonal veggies into the batter as per your choice. Then medium thick shallow fried batter like a pancake. The recipe can be made plain or with mixed grated veggies. This recipe is delicious and does not need many ingredients. Only use basic ingredients which are easily available at home. Taste of suji cheela is crispy on outside and soft and fluffy inside. I have mentioned recipe details below step by step with photos. Suji cheela/Rava cheela recipe step by step
Suji (rava) – 1 cup
Curd – ¼ cup
Mustard seeds – 1 teaspoon
Asafetida – 1 pinch
Curry leaves – 10 leaves
Ginger – 1 inch (grate)
Onion – 1 medium size (finely chopped)
Tomato – 1 small size (finely chopped)
Capsicum – 1 tablespoon (chopped)
Beans – 1 tablespoon (chopped)
Carrot – 1 tablespoon (chopped)
Green chilli – 2 (chopped)
Salt – as per taste
Place Suji in a bowl, add curd and mix well using a spoon.
Then pour 1 cup of water and salt. Mix well together, and keep it aside for 15 minutes.
Wash all vegetables and chop finely.
Add all chopped vegetables and grated ginger to the batter. Mix well and again check for the consistency. Suji absorbs water and batter becomes thick almost times. If required add extra water and mix well to make sure the batter consistency is thick.
Heat a spoonful oil in non-stick tawa. Add mustard seeds, asafetida, curry leaves and sauté all.
Add tadka to the batter and mix well.
Heat the same non-stick pan. When tawa goes medium hot, add few drops of oil on the tawa and spread it. Flame should be medium. Pour a ladle-full batter (approx 1/2 cup) and spread it into the circle with help of ladle.
When the top surface of batter’s colour changes to off-white (approx 1-2 mins) and bottom side turns light brown. Pour some oil on the surface and spread it gently. Flip it gently and cook it on the opposite side until it turns brown in colour. Flip it again and cook for 20 seconds.
Transfer it to a plate. Do the same with the remaining batter. Healthy and tasty Suji cheela is ready. Serve hot with tomato ketchup or coconut chutney.
- For good result take roasted Suji for cheela batter.
- Add vegetables as per your choices. You can make it with only onion and tomato. The taste does not have any difference.
- If you want to make it healthier, do not add oil to the batter surface.
- You can make it also on iron tawa.
